. . . of AWESOME.

I think that I may need this t-shirt.

Ask me something.

It’s been a busy week and I’ve obviously had very little time to come up with a substantive post (there are a couple in the works, but not ready yet).  So . . . I want you to give me something to write about by asking me a question that I can address in a post in the near future.   It can be about anything (within reason) — my views, theology, church, politics, family, music, technology, whatever, etc.

I can’t guarantee any profoundly insightful answers, but I can guarantee honesty.  Of course, I reserve the right to pick and choose the questions I answer, but like I said, as long as it’s within reason and I don’t get inundated with inquiries (hah), there shouldn’t be an issue.

So, let me have it.

(And don’t worry, those of you wondering . . . the baptism question will be addressed soon.  No need to ask about that one.)

So . . . who reads this?

So this new domain and blog has been up and running for about a month now and I’m wondering . . . who are you people? If you’ve been reading regularly, leave a comment. Even if you’re a regular commenter (or I otherwise already know you’re a reader), and even (especially) if you’ve never commented. No better time than the present.

So, tell me about yourselves, folks. Even if I already know you.

Also: upgraded to WP 2.1.3 and I don’t appear to have destroyed anything. Thumbs up.

(By the way, if you’re reading this on LiveJournal or Facebook . . . hop on over to the real deal and comment there.)

Jesus wins.

Happy Easter.

Back Home

The trip to Virginia Beach was really good, and much needed, but it’s good to be back in Columbus.Prairie dog peeking out

This was actually our second time to go to VB in as many years. Amy’s friend Krystal got married this time, and last year, Krystal’s twin sister, Keri, likewise jumped the broom. (Read – briefly – about last year’s trip here.) So, while it was a little disconcerting to not have to deal with seeing pre-teen and teenaged girls in skimpy “clothes” everywhere* (last year’s trip was during Spring Break), there was still a sense of familiarity with the surroundings. We once again stopped and stayed at a hotel — the same hotel, in fact — in Hagerstown, MD the first night of travel, and once again headed to the National Zoo in DC the next day. Zoë had a great time again. She especially looked forward to seeing the elephant, because, in her words, “they’ll remember me from last year”. I liked the little guy on the above right, myself.

Next few days were spent actually in Virginia Beach after a few more hours of relatively painless driving. We got a good deal on an oceanfront hotel (like last year) and spent some time on the beach. Saturday was the wedding, which was beautiful and Christ-centered (though the jokes during the homily were a little… preacher-y). It was a bit déjà vu-ish seeing Krystal walk down the aisle and take vows, as her sister who looks just like her just did the same thing twelve months ago. Weird.

The reception was a great time, especially for Z. She was on the dance floor more than anyone the whole night. There’s almost nothing funnier than seeing a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in a pretty spring dress, getting down to Justin Timberlake, and shouting “this is my song!”

Spent Sunday at Krystal’s parents’ house, hanging out with their family and some of the wedding guests, and then headed home that night. Good to be back.

[I wish I had more pictures to show you, but the camera ended up breaking on the third day of the trip. (That does, however, give me a valid reason to purchase this beaut.)]

*: Where are these girls’ fathers? Grandfathers? Uncles? Brothers? Ugh.

Good morning, Virginia Beach.

What a vain domain name, eh?

Out sick.

My beautiful daughter transmitted her not-beautiful cold to me earlier this week. After hacking up multiple lungs most of the work week, I stayed home today. Good thing, because today has been the worst by far. Yuck. Hopefully, the combination of Ricola, Theraflu, and Excedrin will deaden the symptoms enough for me to function normally.

Either that, or it’ll put me into a coma, which might be nice as well.

Things at church are going well. We’re experiencing growth, people are coming to believe the Gospel, relationships are being formed and deepened, and goals are being set and met. Officers (elders and deacons) are being trained, and (by God’s grace — gotta throw that in there) we’ll move from “mission church” status to being an actual particular church by the end of the year. All the while, making Jesus look good to our friends and neighbors. I think that this thing is working.

(By the way, I’m among the guys in officer training, so if you pray, pray for my continued diligence in my studies for our upcoming examinations. And my cough. Because I feel like crap.)

Welcome. Again.

So this is my new place. The new home of not another blog is raewhitlock.com. I felt like my blogging was getting stale and one way to break out of my rut was to pack up and move, so to speak.

If you don’t know me already, my name is (shockingly) Rae Whitlock, a 20-something IT-guy-turned-church-staffer-turned-IT-guy-again. I’m also a husband, a daddy, a son, a Christian, a coffee snob, a music lover, a technology buff, a novice theologian, a future seminarian, a wannabe presbyter, and various other things, depending on the day and time. For a fuller biographical treatment (and to see my ugly mug) check out the “about” page. You probably already knew to do that, but if not, welcome to the Internet.

The old site will stay up as an archive, but update your links/feeds/etc if you want to get the new stuff. Enjoy your stay. If you get bored, check out the copious links to your right.

Something new…

Something new is on the horizon.
