Accursed.

I am ASTONISHED that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again…

If ANYONE is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, LET HIM BE ACCURSED.
(Galatians 1:6-9 ESV)

i’m no fan of beck, but let me play DA for a sec…do you really think this is what Paul is talking about? is beck preaching a ‘gospel’ that Christians are “following after”?

I think so, Mike. Beck knows that the idol that most of his constituency worships is the false god of “American values”, and he’s preaching a gospel that’s easy for them to swallow: restore the nation back to said “values” and receive the favor of God.

Not only that, but he seems to be successfully convincing a good number of alleged evangelicals of the veracity of this “gospel.”

ok then, you’re right.

Yup. And here’s Russell Moore on the issue, too. :)

Haha — never mind. I just noticed you already mentioned it on Twitter. (Oops!)

No one should pretend Beck is a Christian or speaks for the gospel. He doesn’t. Mormonism might be more “family values” than most false religions, but that doesn’t make it less false.

On the other hand, no one ought to pretend (someone send a note to Jim Wallis!) that Obama is a Christian. He clearly is not either.

Amen, Rae. “American values” is a false god, especially because it’s terribly difficult to define what those values truly are. Slavery and imperialism were in the American ethos for more than a century.

I did not hear any of his speech, but the only thing I’ve ever heard him talk about (on his Fox show) is that in order for the country to turn around, we have to turn to God first. He quoted: 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Is there a specific broadcast or speech that comes to mind? I ask because maybe *I* am filtering out the other stuff too.

I’ve heard him say things I don’t agree with as well.

Tony – Anyone can talk about “God” in non-specific terms like that. Most of the folks Beck is trying to rally with his message (evangelical Christians) aren’t even aware that Beck himself is not a Christian.
