Zoë is an occasional “model” for the Ohio Department of Education’s early childhood brochures. This photo (taken by Amy about a year ago) was recently being considered for a “Read to Your Child” brochure.

Well, apparently, there was a two hour special meeting today at the ODE over this picture, because (despite numerous other department people loving it), according to one of the department’s photographers/art directors, it’s was “inappropriate”. Why? Because we’re on a bed. And I’m the “main focus” of the picture instead of her (mainly because I’m bigger . . . shocking, considering I’m an adult and she’s a child). But, mostly because we’re on a bed.
TWO HOURS today discussing this!
Your tax dollars at work, Ohio citizens.

Dude, that’s what the floor’s for!
(Speaking of Ohio… didja get my e-mail?)
wow…….just wow. it scares me sometimes to see how people think and wonder if something that i am doing with my kids that is TOTALLY innocent will be perceived as something terrible and i end up with the cps at my house. this is one of my greatest fears.
Wow! When the kids were growing up, especially Justin, every night he’d ask “Who’s gonna read to me?”
I’m not related to him, I am a woman, and Justin was a little boy and I would sit on the bed, or kneel next to it, and read his kid Bible to him…ON THE BED! Oh the humanity!
I never once thought it inappropriate, never once thought about someone else thinking it inappropriate.
Our society needs help! Lord Jesus please come soon!
LOL
Oh, and Katrina just pointed out they are called “BEDTIME stories”!
Tell ‘em its a futon.
Funny, I thought it was a couch.
Rae, you are a controversial figure, no doubt!
there is really something wrong with the world when a parent can’t be on a bed with their own child.
