“They Each Emerged Victorious.”

On October 6, 2007, five Grace Central men (myself included) were examined by a commission of the Great Lakes Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America as candidates for church office (either that of Ruling Elder or Deacon). As it was put in yesterday’s church bulletin, “in a furious, stunning display of biblical knowledge, Christian character, and theological acumen, [we] each emerged victorious.”

Now, the matter goes to the congregation for nominations and elections (all taking place over the next couple of months). The elders-elect (and deacons-elect, if any) will then be ordained and installed, and Grace Central will be officially be organized as a particular church of the PCA. After that, the real work begins.

BUT . . . the studying, training, and meeting up with the guys every Saturday morning at 7:30 over the past eighteen months is over. And it paid off.

(Thanks to everyone who prayed for me.)

woohoo!
And great job during the exam, Rae. Your “theological acumen” was stellar.

Congrats Rae! I was ordained as a deacon in our church a few years ago and it ranks right up in the top 5 experiences in my life. Serving the body in this capacity is very rewarding and I am continually amazed at the way God blesses through service.

Congratulations Son!! I thank God for, and am very proud of, you. I know all the studying has been a tremendous blessing and sacrifice for you and Amy and Zoe.

So looking forward to seeing you all during the Thanksgiving holidays. Maybe then we’ll discuss the merits and minuses of Traducianism (did I spell that right?).

We’re just starting a new 3-month adult study at the church based on “Restoring America’s Christian Values” by Peter Marshall. It looks like it gonna be fun. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Remembering you guys in my prayers always. Please continue to remember Steph in yours…God is faithful and the fervent, effectual prayers of a righteous man availeths much…you are the man.

Joel: I was leaning pretty heavily on the rest of you guys, fo’ sho’. Actually, I think that there was some “mutual leaning” going on amongst the five of us. Great job, yourself.

Travis: Aww yeah.

Greg: Thanks, man. I tend to get confused when you comment, because “Greg” is also my pastor’s name (and he also comments here on occasion). The moyl.com address very quickly lets me know which one you are, though. :-)

Chris: I’ll have to devise some outrageously expensive lunch for you to buy me. ;-)

Dad: Thanksgiving looks like a “go”! It’ll be fun. I’ll do some studying up on traducianism between now and then so I’ll know what I’m talking about. :D

God has been good to you, brother. And good to me that He allowed our paths to cross. I pray that God will add His blessings to your ministry and that the humbling that must come with leadership, will lead you to further exultation in His grace. I will also pray for Amy as this office will affect her as much as it affects you. I only wish we could serve together my friend. Hold fast, and continue to fight the good fight…
