This is free speech for the dumb!

I have heard a lot about Joel Osteen over the years. I haven't read his book and I have only seen a few of sermons. And I haven't given much thought to him until a teacher of mine recently told me that he said Jesus isn't the only way to heaven on Larry King.

I thought, "If he said that, then he would have been kicked out of his church." All of those people couldn't be that decieved. So, I looked it up, and it looks like he was avoiding judging people on CNN, which is what turns the world off the most about Christians, more than claiming that Jesus wasn't the only way. He really said that Jesus was the way for him, and that God is judge.

Now, I understand that there comes a point where you have to accept Jesus as the only way and repent from your sins. But, I also try to imagine what it would be like to be a Chrisitan celebrity. Most non-believers hear him talk about Jesus than you or me. If most of the world writes us off as judgmental what would you do? What would you want to avoid saying on the Larry King show?

Will it help non-beleivers in the long-run to believe Jesus is the way for some people...no. But, is it a good place to start by saying, 'look, I'm not going to do anything that appears judgmental. Instead, let me tell you some of the benefits of living with the power of Jesus. If that can get a non-believer at least interested in the Gospel, then he's probably doing a lot better at getting people's attention at an entry level of faith, then most churches.

I'm not saying I'm a Joel fan, but I wonder about all the criticism we give him. Maybe the messages we hear are only part of his ministry. Maybe those are his seeker-frinedly services, and they have other ministries within that church that talk about sin and the need for Christ. Maybe we only see the first step in the ladder, because the first step should be approachable for anyone in the world. Just my thoughts

The truth is, without people who support this ignorant fool, he wouldn't exist. That is a representation of the Christian movement today: the only reason Christians 'believe' is because they think there is something in it for themselves.

Ummmm. I am LDS, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I have eyes that are sharp enough to expose the fact that Joel has wires visible (on right side) and a matching curl on his left side (right behind his ears). These are mini speakers that dictate every perfect word he speaks. Note that he speaks like he's reading a very well written speach on a tele-prompter. This is why people think is so amazing...like all that great speach is coming off the top of his head. Well, it is but not quite from the top. The middle, behind his ears.

Silly rabbit Joel. Tricks are for kids.

Rae, you asked where people found the link to this. I am doing some background reading, preparing a sermon on loving your enemies. This came up top on the google search.

For the record...I would have trouble with the idea of wealth as an index of spiritual maturity. I would have thought that Job would give us enough illustration that spiritual matters can be much more complex than what we see on the surface of life!

Macgyver asks some very good questions that you dodge, Bob. They're actually quite easy to answer based on orthodoxy. Not so easy if all you have is Joel Osteen's blatherings.

Once again, Joel Osteen's utter failure to uphold Christian truth in an age of apostacy only further supports what is all too clear about his teaching: it is spiritually bankrupt.

Here is a link to articles our ministry has created on Osteen's heretical compromise that is anointed as "Christianity" today.

If we had stuck with the Book of Acts we wouldn't have needed the reformers. That was church! Now that's an Osteen response.... John Osteen.

Hey what do you think about praying in tongues?

Snakes? We only do that on the 3rd wed of each month. I kidding.

I guess we've run everybody off macgyver. LOL Maybe they're on vacation.

Have a great Christmas

Sounds like an Osteen response. I sure am glad the Reformers didn't adopt such an attitude

Hey folks what do you say we continue this argument over coffee after we've had dinner with the Lord. We can laugh with each other over who was right and who was wrong. I've got Christmas shopping to do.
